Fascinating Merano and environs

About castles, museums, gardens, thermal baths and more

The sights in Merano and environs continue to fascinate visitors from all over the world. During your holidays near Merano/Meran make sure to visit one or more of the following sights: the picturesque Scena Castle, dating back to the year 1350, the magical gardens of Trauttmansdorff Castle with their impressive diversity of plants or the thermal baths in Merano/Meran, a true architectonic master piece right in the heart of the spa town. Other highlights are Juval Castle in Castelbello/Kastelbell or Sigmundskron Castle in Firmiano/Firmian. These two castles offer the site for two out of the six Messner Mountain Museums, all planned by extreme mountaineer Reinhold Messner. If you are interested in history, then we recommend you a visit to the South Tyrol Museum of Archaeology in Bolzano/Bozen; home of the iceman Ötzi, the mummy which was found in the eternal ice of the Senales/Schnals glacier. In the Andreas Hofer Museum in Val Passiria/Passeiertal you can explore the history of the Tyrolean freedom fighter Andreas Hofer, illustrated in his birth house, the “Sandwirt” in San Leonardo in Passiria/St. Leonhard in Passeier.
